Colonia-Haus
Colonia-Haus is a big residential skyscraper in Cologne, Germany. It stands at An der Schanz 2 in the Riehl district, built from 1970 to 1973. The tower is about 147 meters tall with around 45 floors. When it opened in 1973, it was the tallest building in Germany used only for living space, a record it held until 2020 when the Grand Tower in Frankfurt was finished.
The building has 373 units in total, with 352 flats on floors 3 to 41, sized from 35 to 118 square meters. It has four elevators, garbage chutes on every floor, and partial air conditioning and heating. There is a parking garage and bike storage. The ground level features an 8 by 15 meter pool overlooking the Rhine, a separate children’s pool, a Finnish sauna with plunge pool and relaxation room, a fitness room, and table tennis. Ground-floor amenities include a 250-square-meter grocery store, a restaurant with a terrace, a bar and bowling, a doctor’s office, and a municipal kindergarten.
The building was advertised as Colonia-Haus under the Colonia insurance brand. After Colonia was bought by AXA in 1997, the AXA branding was added at the top in 1998, but the name Colonia-Haus remained.
