Papyrus Oxyrhynchus 147
Papyrus Oxyrhynchus 147, also known as P. Oxy. 147 or P. Oxy. I 147, is a Greek receipt written on papyrus found in Oxyrhynchus, Egypt. The document dates to April 7, 556 CE, though the dating has some inconsistencies and scholars Grenfell and Hunt had to make assumptions. It records a payment for a rope or coil supplied by the monks of the monastery of Andreas for a machine in the garden of the Holy Mary, used to raise water to fill the holy font. The fragment measures 58 by 310 mm. It was discovered by Bernard Grenfell and Arthur S. Hunt in 1897 and published in 1898 in Oxyrhynchus Papyri I. Today the receipt is housed in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo (inventory 10074). It is related to two neighboring papyri, Oxyrhynchus Papyri 146 and 148.
