Christoph Betzl
Christoph Betzl (born 13 February 1949) is a German former international speedway rider. He was born in Rott am Inn, Germany, and competed for West Germany, earning 24 international caps for the national team.
Speedway career
Betzl reached the final of the Speedway World Championship in 1979, representing West Germany and finishing 14th in Chorzów, Poland. He also reached eight finals in the Individual Speedway Long Track World Championship (1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982), winning bronze in 1980 and silver in 1981. Other long-track finals included 12th in 1974, 5th in 1975, 8th in 1976, 11th in 1977, 6th in 1979, and 10th in 1982.
Betzl rode in Britain in 1975 as part of a German team tour and competed in the British league for the Poole Pirates that year.
World final appearances also include the World Pairs Championship in 1975, where he and Fritz Baur finished 6th in Wrocław.
Club career
At the club level in West Germany, Betzl rode for AC Landshut in 1980.
Legacy
Betzl is remembered as one of West Germany’s notable speedway riders during the 1970s and early 1980s, with multiple appearances in world finals and international competition.
