Chris Townsend (full name Christopher Gordon Townsend) is a Welsh former professional footballer who played as a forward. He was born on 30 March 1966 in Abertillery, Wales.

Townsend began his career at Cardiff City, making five league appearances in the 1983–84 season. He then spent most of his playing days in non-league football, representing numerous clubs in Wales and the southwest of England. Highlights include Cheltenham Town (89 appearances, 39 goals) from 1985 to 1988 and Gloucester City (70 appearances, 57 goals) from 1988 to 1990. He also played for Forest Green Rovers, Yeovil Town, Bath City, Newport County, Inter Cardiff, Ton Pentre, Barry Town and several other clubs, moving frequently across the Welsh and English non-league scene.
