National Alliance of Liberals
National Alliance of Liberals (NAL) was a liberal political party in Ghana during the Second Republic (1969–1972). It was founded in 1969 after the ban on party politics was lifted. Komla Agbeli Gbedemah was the founder and first leader, but he did not win a seat in the August 29, 1969 parliamentary election, so Eric Madjitey became the party’s leader in Parliament. In that election, the NAL won 29 of 140 seats in the National Assembly. The party’s headquarters were in Accra. The NAL was dissolved on January 13, 1972, after a military coup brought Colonel Acheampong to power. Ideology: liberalism.
