Overview:
The genus Reichlingia was described in 2001 and is known only from Belize. It was first placed with brushed trapdoor spiders, but in 2014 it was reclassified as a tarantula (family Theraphosidae) in the Ischnocolinae subfamily. The species was originally named Acanthopelma annae by Steven B. Reichling in 1997, and was moved to Reichlingia in 2001, becoming Reichlingia annae. The name honors Ann Reichling, the researcher’s wife who helped with the study.
