Changsong Provincial School
Changsong Provincial School is a historic Confucian school in Changsong County, North Pyongan Province, North Korea. It is designated as a National Treasure of North Korea.
The school began in the early Joseon era, and a ridgepole inscription notes it was rebuilt in 1765. It was the first local institution to teach the aristocratic class Confucian ideas.
In front stands Myongryun Hall, which has no walls. It is 15.4 meters wide and 5.6 meters long. Behind it are two gabled houses facing each other, named Tong-mu and So-mu, with double eaves on a terraced base. Behind these is Taesong Hall, another double-eaved gabled building, measuring 11.15 meters wide by 7.1 meters long. The school features finely crafted, dovetailed pillars and roof brackets.
The layout and design show typical features of Confucian school architecture from that era and illustrate how such schools were run at the time.
