Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CMERI), Durgapur, is a public engineering research center in West Bengal, India. It is part of the Indian Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and is the country’s national-level institute focused on mechanical engineering.

Founded around 1958, CMERI was set up to develop India’s mechanical engineering technology and help Indian industries. It started by focusing on national technology and import substitution and now works on cutting-edge areas such as robotics, mechatronics, microsystems, cybernetics, manufacturing, precision agriculture, embedded systems, near-net-shape manufacturing, and biomimetics.
