Carpathian Euroregion is an international group formed on February 14, 1993, by regional leaders from Poland, Ukraine, Slovakia and Hungary in Debrecen. In 2000, several Romanian regional administrations joined. It now includes 19 administrative units across five countries: Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Ukraine and Romania. The area covers about 160,000 square kilometers and is home to more than 15 million people. The goal is to bring together people in the Carpathian Mountains region and to boost cooperation in science, culture, education, trade, tourism and the economy. Because of its size, a smaller Euroregion called the Biharia Euroregion was created within it, centered in Oradea, covering Bihor County in Romania and Hajdu-Bihar in Hungary.
