Carolyn Griffey is an American soul singer and the lead female vocalist of Shalamar since 2001. She is the daughter of Carrie Lucas and Dick Griffey, head of SOLAR Records, which worked with Don Cornelius on Soul Train. She grew up around artists like The Whispers, Shalamar, Midnight Star, Dynasty, Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye and James Brown.

In 1990, Griffey joined the SOLAR Records dance-pop duo Absolute. They released one album, For All Seasons, and singles including Cheap Shot, Gotta Lambada, and This Moment In Time, which appeared on the Lambada soundtrack.

Griffey has been Shalamar’s lead singer since 2001. She appeared on ITV’s Hit Me, Baby, One More Time in 2005 and has toured the world with Howard Hewett and Jeffrey Daniels. She also sings with Andraé Crouch and his gospel choir, known for Michael Jackson’s Man in the Mirror.

In October 2009, Griffey performed with Hewett and Daniels at London’s O2 Arena, leading to a UK tour in April 2010. Shalamar has performed annually at the O2 Arena in London since 2010. In 2014, she joined Hewett and Daniels for Shalamar concerts at the Manchester Ritz and the London O2.

In 2018, Griffey, Carrie Lucas, Lucas Griffey and Chinese promoter Jessie Tsang relaunched Solar Records and Soul Train Records in the UK. Jessie Tsang is CEO and Sonia Damney is Vice President. Griffey and Lucas also hold the UK and Europe trademark rights to Shalamar.

In 2022, Carolyn Griffey and Carrie Lucas took part in a TV One Unsung episode about Dick Griffey and Solar Records, which aired on November 6, 2022.
