Carolina Blues
Carolina Blues is a 1944 American musical comedy directed by Leigh Jason. The film stars Kay Kyser, Ann Miller, Victor Moore, Jeff Donnell, Howard Freeman, Georgia Carroll, M.A. Bogue, Harry Babbitt and Sully Mason. It was released by Columbia Pictures on December 20, 1944, and runs 81 minutes.
Kay Kyser and his band return to North Carolina after a USO tour. Instead of taking a rest, they perform at a nearby shipyard. There Kay meets Julie Carver, a talented singer whom Kay wrongly assumes is the wealthy daughter of the shipyard’s owner. Kay’s usual vocalist, Georgia Carroll, needs Julie to fill in so she can marry. Kay worries that Julie’s apparent wealth will keep her from staying with the band. After more performances to raise money for navy ships, Julie reveals that she is actually poor, not related to the shipyard owner, and wants to join the band. Kay and Julie reconcile and fall in love.
