Sofia Engström
Sofia Engström, born on July 3, 1988, in Ramnäs, Sweden, is a Swedish ice hockey defense player who shoots left. She is 1.63 meters tall and weighs 63 kilograms. Engström plays for Modo Hockey Dam in the Swedish Women's Hockey League (SDHL) and has represented Sweden internationally. By the end of the 2020–21 season, she had played 396 SDHL games across 14 seasons, making her the longest-serving player in the league's history.
She started her SDHL career with Leksands IF in the 2007–08 season (then Riksserien) and made her national series debut in 2008–09 against Brynäs. Engström served as Leksands’ captain from 2009 to 2014. She played her 200th game for Leksands on February 26, 2015, and signed a one-year contract with the team on July 24, 2015. She reached 300 games for Leksands on October 16, 2017, and extended her contract on May 2, 2018. In June 2019, she left Leksands to join Modo Hockey.
Internationally, Engström made her debut for Team Sweden in 2012 at the 4 Nations Cup while she was captain of Leksands. She was part of the Swedish Olympic team at the 2014 Winter Olympics, playing in all six games. She was named to Sweden’s roster for the 2018 4 Nations Cup in Saskatoon. Engström also played for Sweden at the 2019 IIHF Women's World Championship, scoring two goals in five games as Sweden finished ninth and was relegated.
