Canal do Otário
Canal do Otário is a Brazilian YouTube channel and website started on February 3, 2012 by an anonymous host called Otário Anonymous. He investigates false advertising and calls out scams, usually appearing with a paper bag over his head, wearing a suit and white gloves, and using a high-pitched voice. He says staying anonymous helps him speak freely and keeps him safer.
Notable episodes include a video about hidden fees in a Bradesco mutual fund, which led Bradesco to sue Google to remove it from YouTube (Google has appealed). Another video criticizing Brazil’s postal service, Correios, was banned in Brazil by a court for trademark reasons, though it remains on YouTube in other countries. The court ordered Google to delete parts showing Correios’ logo; the order was issued in 2013 and fully enforced in 2014. Correios also sought removal of the video on Vimeo.
