Calm Before the Storm is the sixth studio album by Australian musician Jon English and his first for Mercury Records. It was released in Australia in April 1980. The album peaked at No. 17 on the Kent Music Report chart in March 1983. Three singles were issued: "Hot Town" (October 1979) reached No. 11, "Carmilla" (March 1980) reached No. 27, and "Hold Back the Night" (January 1981). The international version of the album had a slightly different track order and included "Hold Back the Night," which was released as a single in 1981. The album was produced by Bruce Brown and Russell Dunlop, and sits in English’s discography after English History (1979) and before In Roads (1981).
