Sexual Freedom Awards
The Sexual Freedom Awards is a yearly British event in London that honors people working in sexuality and erotica around the world. It started in 1994, created by campaigner Tuppy Owens. It was first called the Erotic Oscars, later renamed the Erotic Awards (2002–2013), and since 2013 has been known as the Sexual Freedom Awards.
The event is run by the Leydig Trust to raise money for the Outsiders Club, a charity that helps disabled people find partners. The Erotic Awards originally had 21 categories, including Campaigner, Sex Worker, Striptease Artist, Fashion, Academic, Writer, and Film. Nominations come from the public, and three finalists in each category are chosen by the Grand Jury of Conspicuous Sensuality. Winners are announced at the ceremony, where finalists’ work is shown or performed. All winners receive the Flying Penis trophy. The ceremony takes place in London, with a semi-finals event and a finals night (the finals used to be at the Sex Maniacs Ball but is now a full award night in its own right). Website: www.sexualfreedomawards.co.uk. As of 2024, the awards continue to be held.
