Trying Times
Trying Times was a Canadian‑American anthology comedy TV series. It was produced by KCET and aired on PBS, running for two seasons from 1987 to 1989. It was PBS’s first original comedy and was co-produced with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, shown as part of CBC’s Lies From Lotus Land.
The show featured actors such as Rosanna Arquette, Candice Bergen, David Byrne, Jeff Daniels, Geena Davis, Teri Garr, Hope Lange, Catherine O’Hara, and Steven Wright. The scripts were written by Christopher Durang, Spalding Gray, Bernard Slade, and Wendy Wasserstein.
Trying Times had no laugh track, and the central character served as the narrator. The writers were involved in casting and worked on the set. It was filmed in Vancouver to save money and was created and produced by Jon S. Denny.
