Brown-snouted blind snake
Brown-snouted blind snake (Anilios wiedii) is a small, non-venomous snake in the Typhlopidae family. It is endemic to Australia, where it is found in New South Wales and Queensland, living in forests and savannas. It grows up to about 29 cm long and has a brown back with a yellow underside. The snout is very prominent and rounded, with the nostrils near the bottom. There are 20 rows of scales around the body, and the body is slender—about 50 times longer than wide. Anilios wiedii lays eggs (oviparous). The species is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN. The name wiedii honors German naturalist Prince Maximilian of Wied-Neuwied, and it is also known as Wied’s blind snake.
