La Faena Films
La Faena Films is a film production company started in January 2015 by Venezuelan filmmakers Jorge Thielen Armand and Rodrigo Michelangeli. It operates in Toronto and Caracas and focuses on international co-productions. They have produced three feature films—La Fortaleza, La Soledad, and El Father Plays Himself—and three short films—Of Memory and Debris, Flor de la Mar, and Ráfagas de Paz.
La Fortaleza is a co-production between Venezuela, Colombia, France, and the Netherlands. It premiered in the Tiger Competition at the 49th Rotterdam International Film Festival, the first Venezuelan production to compete there. It also screened at Busan, Gijón, Cairo, Rome, and Biarritz, where Nicole Brenez awarded it the Jury Prize. It also won awards in Rome and Caracas.
La Soledad, Thielen Armand’s debut, premiered at the Venice Film Festival (73rd edition) and has been shown at more than 60 festivals worldwide, earning 14 awards, including the Miami Film Festival Audience Award.
Of Memory and Debris, a 2020 short by Rodrigo Michelangeli, received a Special Mention at the Caracas Film Critics Festival and was released online as a Vimeo Staff Pick.
La Faena Films’ work aims to explore reality through an author-driven lens, with a focus on Venezuelan contemporary identity.
