Brixton plc was a London-based property company listed on the London Stock Exchange and formerly part of the FTSE 250. It was founded in 1924 by Percy Mayer as Brixton Estate Limited to buy a 6-acre site on Brixton Road in London. After World War II, starting in 1945, it expanded by purchasing properties damaged during the war. In 1997 it focused on industrial property in West London, and in 2001 the name changed to Brixton plc. It became a Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) in January 2007. Brixton was acquired by SEGRO in August 2009. The company owned about 25 million square feet of industrial and commercial space in West London, and at the end of 2008 its portfolio was valued at about £1.6 billion. Key people included Lady Louise Patten (Chairman) and Peter Dawson (CEO). In 2008 Brixton reported revenue of £89.8 million, with negative operating and net income of £532.5 million and £767.7 million respectively.
