Brian McCotter (born 1984 in Belfast, Northern Ireland) is an Irish professional basketball player who has played for Newcastle University Knights and previously for the Newcastle Eagles. A product of St. Malachy’s College, he was MVP in the All Ireland U19 Schools Final after scoring 29 points and was Irish Senior Schoolboy Player of the Year in 2002. He also represented Ireland at the Junior Men’s level. He began his club career with Star of the Sea in Belfast. At Glasgow Caledonian University he captained the Scotland Universities team and played for Troon Tornadoes (2004–2006), helping them win the Scottish National League title and two Scottish Cups, and earning a West All Star selection in 2005. He set the Scottish University scoring record with 57 points against Edinburgh University in 2005. Known as a quick ball handler and a sharp shooter with a strong work ethic, McCotter impressed Newcastle Eagles coach Fabulous Flournoy enough to sign him in 2006. With the Eagles he won two BBL Championships, two BBL Leagues, and one BBL Trophy.
