Our Lady of the Assumption Cathedral, Saurimo
Our Lady of the Assumption Cathedral, also known as Saurimo Cathedral, is a Roman Catholic church in Saurimo, in Angola’s Lunda Sul province. It was built between 1958 and 1959 and officially blessed in 1961, when Angola was still a Portuguese colony. The cathedral follows the Latin rite and serves as the main church of the Archdiocese of Saurimo. The diocese was created in 1975 by Pope Paul VI and was raised to an archdiocese in 2011 by Pope Benedict XVI. The cathedral’s pastoral leader is Bishop José Manuel Imbamba.
