New Varna Stadium
Georges de Regibus Stadium is a planned football stadium in Varna, Bulgaria. It will replace the old Yuri Gagarin Stadium and become the new home for Cherno More Varna. The venue will seat about 22,441 people and has a grass pitch. It is part of the Sport Complex Varna project, which includes parking and other facilities.
Construction began on September 12, 2008, but was halted in 2009 because of the financial crisis. Work restarted in 2015 after local authorities secured funding. Planex Holding was the main contractor. The project was originally designed for 30,000 seats with a possible expansion to 40,000, and featured a ship-like shape with two-tier stands and four tall towers. The roof would be partly transparent to let light reach the pitch.
As of mid-2023, the stadium had not yet been completed. In October 2024, the Bulgarian government joined the ownership to help finish the project.
