Bosaina
Bosaina is an Egyptian musician and artist from Cairo. She is a singer‑songwriter, producer, art curator, actress, and model. She leads vocals in several bands within Cairo’s electronic scene as part of the Kairo is Koming (KIK) collective. She took part in the 2014 Red Bull Music Academy in Tokyo and acted in The United, the Touchstone Pictures film shot in the Middle East. In 2014 she said she learned Ableton Live and used it to create her first EP. She has performed with Cairo electronic groups Wetrobots, Zuli, and Quit Together through KIK, and has toured in Lebanon, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Japan, and at SXSW in the United States. A compilation of her two EPs, New York April – July 2013, was released in 2017 by Discrepant Records.
Bosaina has written, produced, directed, and starred in two performance art pieces, Darkest Days and Solitude in Public, which explore feminism, femininity, and anxiety. She was the artistic director and visual curator for the alternative space VENT, which later reopened as ZigZag. In 2020, PAM magazine described her as one of Cairo’s most prolific activists in the electronic scene. She ran a fashion school in Cairo and is an advocate for social justice and LGBTQ rights. She has spoken about being thrown off stage in Egypt for not wearing enough clothes.
