Borsonia smithi
Borsonia smithi is a species of sea snail in the family Borsoniidae. The shell grows to about 18 mm and has a thick, spindle-shaped (fusiform) form. It is yellowish-white in color. In many specimens the top whorls are worn away, leaving about four whorls in good condition. The preserved whorls have a slightly angular upper part and a more rounded lower part, with a row of small nodules along the margin. The shell surface shows many curved lines and stronger lines marking the old sinus; faint spiral lines are visible on the upper parts. The lower part of each whorl has fine growth lines and occasional weak ridges. The body whorl tapers toward the base and ends in a long siphonal canal. The opening is oval with a moderately sharp angle at the top; the outer lip is thick with a shallow sinus. The interior is smooth and white, with a thick enamel layer on the inner lip. This species occurs in the marine waters off Indonesia.
