2008 Kufra conflict
2008 Kufra conflict
From early November to end of November 2008, Kufra in Cyrenaica, Libya, was the scene of clashes between Libyan government forces and the Toubou Front for the Salvation of Libya (TFSL). The Libyan government, led by Muammar Gaddafi and Issa Abdel Majid Mansur, accused TFSL leaders of backing Chad and stripped many Toubou of Libyan citizenship, fueling tensions. TFSL attacked a local government office, and Libyan troops and helicopters besieged Kufra. The fighting paused in mid-November when both sides agreed to a cease-fire, and on 20 November a tribal meeting with Libyan officials was held to resolve the dispute. The conflict ended in a Libyan victory, with 11–30 people killed and hundreds wounded.
