Rocco Romano
Rocco Romano (born January 23, 1963) is a Canadian former football player who spent 14 seasons in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He mainly played on the offensive line as a guard and offensive tackle, with ten seasons spent with the Calgary Stampeders. He also played for the Toronto Argonauts, Ottawa Rough Riders, and BC Lions. Romano helped Calgary win Grey Cups in 1992 and 1998. He won the DeMarco–Becket Memorial Trophy as the West Division’s outstanding lineman in 1994 and 1996. He earned CFL All-Star honors four times (1992, 1994, 1995, 1996) and West All-Star honors five times (1992, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1999). He was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2007.
Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Romano stood 6 ft 4 in tall and weighed 300 lb during his playing days. He attended St. Ann’s Catholic Elementary, Cathedral High School, and Concordia University in Montreal. He was drafted in the first round of the 1987 CFL Draft, 5th overall by the Calgary Stampeders, and played in the league until 2000. He was married to Shauna Sky, with whom he has two children; they later divorced.
