Born & Raised is the second studio album by German singer Joy Denalane. It is her first English-language album, released on August 11, 2006 by Nesola Records and Four Music. The 65-minute set features production from No I.D., Jake One, BAB Garde, and Max Herre as executive producer, among others. Guest vocalists include Lupe Fiasco, Raekwon, and Governor. The album was released mainly in German-speaking Europe and received universal critical acclaim. It peaked at number 2 on the German Albums Chart and reached the top five in Switzerland; in Germany it was certified Gold by the BVMI. Four singles were issued: Let Go; Heaven or Hell (a Raekwon cover); Sometimes Love; and Change. Critics praised its blend of classic soul with contemporary R&B, Denalane’s strong vocal performance, and solid production. Some reviewers noted that breaking into the U.S. market would be difficult, but felt she was closer than ever to bridging German soul with American R&B.
