Book View Café is an author-owned, all-volunteer publishing cooperative that makes and sells ebooks and runs an online book community. It started in 2008 with 27 published American authors, including Ursula LeGuin, Vonda McIntyre, and Seanan McGuire. The cooperative donates 90% of its earnings to contributing authors. Members contribute skills in exchange for the work needed to publish books, so the group can provide services like editing, formatting, typesetting, cover design, accounting, web design, technology support, legal help, and public relations. Ebooks are released through Kindle, Sony’s e-reader store, and the Book View Café site. In 2012 they began selling ebooks directly to libraries and aimed to work with Smashwords to supply Axis 360 and OverDrive. Book View Café offers new titles and backlists in genres including fantasy, science fiction, horror, romance, humor, mystery, historical, teen/YA, and memoirs.
