Black & White Episode I: The Dawn of Assault is a 2012 Taiwanese action thriller directed by Tsai Yueh-hsun. It’s a prequel to the 2009 TV series Black & White. The film stars Mark Chao as Wu Ying Xiong, with Huang Bo and Angelababy in supporting roles. It was released on January 13, 2012, and has a runtime of 153 minutes. The language is Mandarin and it comes from Taiwan. The budget was about US$11 million. In Taipei, it earned NT$37.6 million, and in Mainland China it earned about ¥89.5 million.
Plot
A brave policeman and a paranoid gangster are forced to team up for 36 hours to stop a major crisis that could destroy Harbor City.

Reception
The film received mixed reviews. Film Business Asia gave it 3/10, calling it a fiasco but noting Huang Bo’s performance as a redeeming factor. The Taipei Times praised the action scenes but criticized the characters and plot.
Sequel
A sequel, Black & White: The Dawn of Justice, was released in 2014.
