Lancashire Cup (rugby union)

The Lancashire Cup was a rugby union competition in England. It began in 1971 and was run by the Lancashire Rugby Football Union (founded in 1881). It was open to clubs in the Lancashire region, including some teams from Cheshire and Merseyside. The men’s competition ended in 2013 because not enough teams entered, partly because league rugby had become more demanding.

Lancashire did not have a county cup until 1971, while Yorkshire had the Yorkshire Cup since 1878. This late start meant Lancashire had fewer clubs. Some clubs in the competition were based outside modern Lancashire, such as Liverpool St Helens and Waterloo, but these areas were part of Lancashire when the Lancashire RFU began.

Last champion: Sedgley Park (4th title). Most titles: Orrell (10 titles).
