Birds Flying Away

Birds Flying Away is the second studio album by American folk singer Mason Jennings. It was released in January 2000 on Bar/None Records. During recording, drummer Chris Stock left and was replaced, and Jennings had mononucleosis for six months, which delayed the release. A New York Times review compared him to Dave Matthews. Unlike his debut, this album includes several political songs. In 2016, City Pages named it his best album, praising the mix of storytelling, historical themes, and funky instrumentation, including an alto sax solo on the track "Black Panther." The title song, "Birds Flying Away," was covered by Streetlight Manifesto on 99 Songs of Revolution: Vol. 1. The album runs 39 minutes and 53 seconds. It was produced by Ed Ackerson and Mason Jennings, and sits after Mason Jennings (1997) and before Century Spring (2002).
