Billy Sherrington

Billy Sherrington, born George William Sherrington on 18 November 1890 in Blaydon, England, was a founder and lifelong servant of York City Football Club, known as "Mr. York City." He was an original director and served as honorary secretary from 1924. In February 1930 he left the board to become full-time secretary, and he also acted as manager in the early 1930s. In the mid-1950s, during York City's FA Cup semi-final run, he shared managerial duties with Tom Lockie. He received the Football League long service medal in 1951. Sherrington retired as secretary in 1961 and then served as the club's president until his death in 1977.
