HD 218108, also known as HR 8786, is a solitary white star in the southern circumpolar constellation Octans. With an apparent magnitude of 6.11, it is barely visible to the naked eye under very dark skies. Parallax measurements place it at about 247 light-years (76 parsecs) away, and it is moving toward the Sun at roughly 7 km/s.

The star is an A-type main-sequence star, usually listed as A6 Vn, where the “n” indicates broadened spectral lines from rapid rotation. Some sources have suggested slightly different classifications, but it is generally treated as a normal hot dwarf star. It has about 1.8 times the Sun’s mass and about 2 times the Sun’s radius.

HD 218108 shines with around 15 solar luminosities and has a surface temperature near 8,210 K. Its surface gravity is log g ≈ 4.17, and its metallicity is close to solar ([Fe/H] ≈ −0.01). The star is young, about 249 million years old, and it spins rapidly with a projected rotational velocity of about 194 km/s.
