Bill Hinds
Bill Hinds is an American cartoonist born on April 21, 1950, in Houston, Texas. He is known for Tank McNamara, Buzz Beamer, and the comic strips Cleats and Tank McNamara.
From 1974 to 2012, Hinds drew Tank McNamara with co-creator Jeff Millar. When Millar’s health declined, Hinds took on writing duties as well. His Buzz Beamer character appears monthly in Sports Illustrated Kids and on the magazine’s website, where the drawings also appear in games and cartoons online.
Hinds is a graduate of Stephen F. Austin University. He has been involved with professional groups such as the National Cartoonists Society and the Newspaper Features Council.
Personal life: He lives in Spring, Texas with his wife Lisa and their three children—Sam, Hannah, and Grace.
Awards: Hinds won the National Cartoonist Society divisional award for Sports Cartoons in 1986 and the NCS New Media Award in 2000. He was nominated for the New Media Award in 2002 and received the National Cartoonist Society Gold T-Square in 2024.
