Condition Critical

Condition Critical is the fourth studio album by Quiet Riot, released July 16, 1984. It didn’t reach the critical or commercial heights of Metal Health, but it still sold over a million copies and peaked at No. 15 on the US Billboard 200.

Like Metal Health, the album includes a cover of a Slade song as its second track, this time “Mama Weer All Crazee Now.” Two singles, “Party All Night” (also known as “Party All Nite”) and “Mama Weer All Crazee Now,” had music videos and some TV airplay. The cover art again features the band’s masked mascot, who appears on this and many other albums. The track “Stomp Your Hands, Clap Your Feet” shares a title related to Slade’s 1974 album Old New Borrowed and Blue.

Frontman Kevin DuBrow’s combative behavior toward journalists hurt the album’s reviews, a fact he later regretted. In a 2019 interview, drummer Frankie Banali suggested the weaker music quality compared to Metal Health came from rushing back into the studio after a tour, leaving little time to rest and reflect.

Reception noted mixed-to-positive elements, with AllMusic praising the Slade cover as the album’s strongest track for its guitar hooks, while Musician magazine gave a stark verdict. The album sold less than Metal Health, despite reaching No. 15 on the Billboard 200.

All songs were written by Kevin DuBrow, except where noted. Shipments are based on certification.
