Berks County Trust Company building
The Berks County Trust Company building is a historic six‑story Neo‑Classical structure in downtown Reading, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1909 for the Berks County Trust Company, which ran one of the county’s largest banks. The building still contains the original 1909 bank vault from York Safe and Lock Company. Additions were added in 1923, 1964, and 1984. In the 1990s it housed Meridian Bancorp Inc., a major local bank group. After economic decline in Reading and the impact of the Great Recession, the building was vacated in the early 2010s. Shuman Development Group purchased it in 2018 with city approval and began a major restoration project overseen by the National Park Service. In 2021, the project received state tax credits and funding to help with construction. The plan is to convert the building into office space with a food court in the main banking hall. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2019. Address: 35 N. 6th St., Reading, PA.
