Benjamin David Kurland was born on May 1, 1984, in Newton, Massachusetts. He is an American actor, entrepreneur, and producer, and he is cousin to Jaime Ray Newman. He studied at Emerson College and later earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Southern California’s School of Theatre in 2006.
Kurland grew up in Dedham and Newton and started acting at age 11 in local theater. He spent summers at Walnut Hill School and studied at The Fessenden School, performing in many plays before high school. At Choate Rosemary Hall, he performed in The Zoo Story with mentor Edward Albee, which drew national attention.
He began his career in independent films. His performance in Taps won first prize at the Rhode Island International Film Festival. In 2011, he appeared in The Artist in a small but important role alongside John Goodman, James Cromwell, and Penelope Ann Miller. He later acted in the horror-comedy Deadly Retreat with Jonathan Bennett and appeared in Mindless, a psychological thriller produced by Michael Biehn.
