Lost and Found (The Kinks song)

Lost and Found is a song by The Kinks. It was released in 1987 as the second single from their 1986 album Think Visual. The song was written by Ray Davies and produced by Ray Davies. The B-side is "Killing Time." It is about 5 minutes and 19 seconds long and was recorded in 1986 at Konk Studios in London.

Lyrics
The song’s lyrics were inspired by Hurricane Gloria. They tell about a New York City couple who nearly lose each other when a big storm hits, but they manage to stay together and feel hopeful about the future. The line “we were lost and found” describes getting through the storm and finding each other again.

Release and reception
Lost and Found appeared on Think Visual as the second track and was released as a single in the UK and the US. It did not chart on the Billboard Hot 100 or the UK Singles Chart, but it reached number 37 on the US Mainstream Rock chart. The song has since appeared on live and compilation releases, including Live: The Road and Lost & Found (1986–1989). Critics generally praised the song: Rolling Stone called it a beautiful ballad about a couple weathering a hurricane, AllMusic highlighted it as a standout on Think Visual, and Cash Box praised its melodicism.

Music video
A music video was made to promote Lost and Found. In the video, the band performs with an orchestra in the background, and Ray Davies appears in antique clothing. Francine Brody is seen as the cellist.
