Bellunes Alps
The Bellunes Alps is an old name for a mountain range on the southern edge of the Eastern Alps in northern Italy. It lies in the Veneto and Trentino-South Tyrol regions and covers parts of Treviso, Pordenone, and Vicenza. The highest peak is Col Nudo, at 2,472 meters above sea level. The range is part of the Southern Limestone Alps, with chalk limestone in the lower areas and dolomite at the tops.
In the old Alpine Club classification it was listed as number 55. In 1984 the range was divided: the northern part joined the Dolomites, and the southern part joined the Southern Carnic Alps (also called the Bellunes Prealps). The northern part is known as the Bellunes Dolomites or the Schiara Group, after Monte Schiara (2,565 m). In 1990, the northern dolomitic part was turned into the Bellunes Dolomites National Park.
