Beer Lovers Party (BLP) in Belarus was a small, satirical political party founded in 1993. It was officially registered on 30 December 1993 and based in Minsk. By 1995 it had about 2,500 members. The party dissolved in 1998.

Belief and goals: The BLP described itself as a joke party with liberal, centre-right views. Its stated aims included improving the cleanliness and quality of national beer, ensuring Belarus’ independence and neutrality, promoting free economic relations, and protecting private property and personal freedom. The party colors were red and white, and its flag/logo featured a “drunken hedgehog,” a joke stereotype from Russian humor.

Leader: Andrej Ramašeŭski. In 1995 he was arrested for burning the flag of the Byelorussian SSR in protest against changes to national symbols after a referendum. He was jailed for about three months and received a suspended sentence in 1996. He later moved to Poland and then the Czech Republic, became a Czech citizen, and joined the Czech Pirate Party.

After this, the party weakened and was dissolved by the Belarusian Supreme Court in 1998 for failing to provide required membership statistics and leadership details to the Justice Ministry.

It was one of several similar “Beer Lovers Parties” created in post-Soviet states.
