Battle of Hisar Firoza (26 February 1526) near Hisar, Delhi Sultanate, was a early clash in Babur’s campaign to conquer India. Babur, with his son Humayun, faced Afghan forces led by Hamid Khan serving Ibrahim Lodi. Hisar was a key stronghold for Lodi, and Babur was marching toward Panipat to fight Ibrahim Lodi when he learned Hamid Khan was moving out from Hisar Firoza to disrupt him. Babur sent Humayun with a strong force to engage Hamid Khan; Lodi’s other army from Hisar Firoza aimed to complicate Babur’s plans as well.

On 26 February, Humayun’s troops attacked. He first sent a small detachment ahead to draw the enemy, then struck with the main force, causing Hamid Khan’s army to retreat. About 150 of Hamid Khan’s men were captured, along with several elephants. It was Humayun’s first battle and first victory. News reached Babur on 2 March, and a messenger was rewarded with a horse. Humayun returned to camp on 5 March with captives and elephants, and Babur granted him control of Hisar.

The victory helped Babur’s wider Panipat campaign. Ibrahim Lodi was killed at Panipat in 1526, and Babur went on to establish the Mughal Empire in India.
