Luciano Martins
Luciano Martins (full name Luciano Luís Turconi Martins), born 3 March 1963, is a Brazilian former professional footballer who played as a striker. He grew up in Porto Alegre, Brazil.
Martins had a long career across Finland, Portugal, Germany, and Finland again. He started at Reipas Lahti in Finland (1985–1986), then played for Portimonense in Portugal (1986–1987), followed by a spell in Germany with FC 08 Homburg (1987–1988). He returned to Portimonense (1988–1991), then played for Rio Ave (1991–1992) and Ilves in Finland (1992). He later appeared for FC Kuusysi (1994–1996), FC Lahti (1997–1999), Hämeenlinna (1999–2001), and TP-Lahti (2002). A highlight of his career came in 1987 when he helped FC 08 Homburg defeat Bayern Munich 3–2. At FC Kuusysi, he also worked as a translator for his Brazilian teammates, and he played a key role in FC Lahti’s promotion to Finland’s top division.
After retiring, Martins worked as an assistant manager at FC Lahti. He later became a restaurant owner, running an Italian eatery in Finland called Mamma Mia.
Martins is a Finnish citizen, of Brazilian origin with Italian and Portuguese descent. He has a daughter and speaks German, English, and Portuguese.
