Konikar Ramdhenu
Konikar Ramdhenu (Ride on the Rainbow) is a 2002 Assamese-language film directed by Jahnu Barua. It tells the story of Kukoi, an imaginative 11-year-old boy who runs away from his village and works at a city motor garage. When the owner tries to molest him, Kukoi defends himself with an iron rod and unintentionally kills him. He is sent to a state juvenile home, where he is traumatized. Warden Biswa Boro is understanding and helps him reveal the truth to the magistrate. The magistrate orders Kukoi’s release to his parents or a guardian. Biswa travels to Kukoi’s village and learns that his mother has died and his stepfather has disowned him. Retired and without children, Biswa adopts Kukoi. The film highlights the harsh realities of juvenile homes.
Konikar Ramdhenu is the final installment of Jahnu Barua’s trilogy, following Xagoroloi Bohu Door (1995) and Pokhi (1998). It stars Ronik as Kukoi, with Bishnu Kharghoria, Moloya Goswami, and Reba Phukan in supporting roles. The film released on 20 December 2002 and runs 112 minutes. Cinematography is by P. Rajan, editing by Heu-En Baruah, and music by Reeta Das Baruah and Y. S. Moolky. It was shown in the Indian Panorama section at IFFI in 2002 and at the Mumbai International Film Festival in 2003. It was distributed by Dolphin Films Pvt. Ltd.
