Avinash Kaur Sarin (born 21 July 1965, New Delhi) is an Indian broadcast journalist, news anchor, documentary director, voice artist and commentator. She studied at Miranda House, University of Delhi, where she earned bachelor’s degrees in Physics and Education. She began her TV career in 1979 as the anchor of Vigyan Patrika on Doordarshan, India's national television network. She became one of the country’s most popular news anchors in the 1980s and 1990s, known for her warm, approachable style and her distinctive large bindi. Sarin also directed several documentaries for Doordarshan on Asian culture and served on the network’s panel of directors and producers. Her notable work includes the primetime documentary Hiroshima-Nagasaki: The Journey. In 1984, during the Delhi riots, she was off-air for health reasons for a month, and many letters were sent to Doordarshan asking about her wellbeing. She is married to businessman Manjit Singh Sarin, and they have two children: Ruben Sarin and Avijit Sarin. Her awards include Best News Anchor recognitions from the Indian National Survey, as well as Adharshila and Bhumika awards for Best Hindi News Anchor.
