St Martin Vintry
St Martin Vintry was a parish church in the City of London. It burned down in the Great Fire of 1666 and was not rebuilt. It stood where Queen Street meets Upper Thames Street, just north of Southwark Bridge. The church was rebuilt in 1306, with the choir paid for by Queen Margaret. The Vintners’ Company, the wine merchants, had an altar there to St Martin, their patron saint. It was one of 86 parish churches destroyed in the Great Fire. In 1670, a plan led by Sir Christopher Wren chose 51 churches to rebuild; St Martin Vintry was not chosen, and its parish joined with St Michael Paternoster Royal.
