Attre Castle
Attre Castle, also known as Château d’Attre, is a country house in Attre, Brugelette, Hainaut, Wallonia, Belgium. It stands on the site of a medieval castle that the family owned since 1520. The present building was built in the mid-18th century by Count François Philippe Franeau d’Hyon van Gomegnies, with construction finished in 1752. François died soon after, in 1755, and his son François Ferdinand Franeau d’Hyon completed the interior decorations, which took more than 30 years. The house is Neo-Classical, with French interiors mainly in the Louis XV style. The estate includes a landscaped garden and forest park, along with several decorative follies such as the Belvédère tower ruins, a 15th-century dovecote, a hermitage, the Vignou tower, a Swiss chalet, a bath pavilion, and Le Rocher, an artificial cave.
