John Romero (American football)
John Romero (born October 3, 1976 in San Leandro, California) is a former American football center and offensive guard. He played college football at California. The Philadelphia Eagles drafted him in 2000, in the sixth round (192nd overall). He spent 2000 on the Eagles’ practice squad after briefly being on the roster. He signed a two-year contract in 2001 but tore a pectoral muscle and was waived later that year. He then joined the Buffalo Bills’ practice squad for the rest of 2001. He later spent short periods with the New Orleans Saints (2002 futures contract) and the St. Louis Rams (2003), but did not stick with those teams. He played for the Everett Hawks in the National Indoor Football League in 2005. After football, he became a police officer in Oakland, California. In January 2025, he was named as a defendant in a federal civil rights lawsuit, Reid v. City of Oakland; the case is pending as of 2026.
