Ascorbyl glucoside
Ascorbyl glucoside (AA-2G) is a vitamin C derivative with a sugar molecule attached. It is commonly used in cosmetic products to deliver vitamin C to the skin. It is more stable and can penetrate the skin better than some other forms of vitamin C, though the rate at which it converts to vitamin C inside the body isn’t fully known. Like vitamin C, it can help prevent scurvy symptoms and is sometimes used in skin whitening products. It is made by attaching a glucose unit to ascorbic acid through a chemical process catalyzed by glycosyltransferase enzymes.
