Arrondissement of Sarcelles
The arrondissement of Sarcelles is an administrative district in France, located in the Val-d'Oise department in the Île-de-France region. It includes 62 communes, and the subprefecture (capital) is Sarcelles. It covers 371.3 square kilometers. The population in 2023 was 490,335, with a density of about 1,321 inhabitants per square kilometer. The INSEE code is 952.
History: The area began as the arrondissement of Montmorency, created in 1962 in the former Seine-et-Oise department. In 1968 it became part of the new Val-d'Oise department. In March 2000, Sarcelles replaced Montmorency as subprefecture. In January 2017, during a reorganization, it gained two communes from Pontoise and lost one to Pontoise.
Cantons: Since 2015, cantons are no longer aligned with arrondissement borders due to reform.
