Arne Aas (actor)
Arne Aas (July 7, 1931 – April 3, 2000) was a Norwegian actor, director and screenwriter who worked in theatre, film and television. He began on the stage in 1957 at the Trøndelag Theatre with Erik XIV and later became the theatre’s manager from 1970 to 1973. He directed plays there and acted in many productions, including Look Back in Anger, Twelfth Night and the title role in Ibsen’s Brand. He worked for NRK’s Television Theater between 1966–1970 and 1973–1975, which made him nationally known, notably as Hans Nilsen Fennefoss in Skipper Worse.
Aas was long associated with the Oslo New Theatre, where he performed in comedies and in Paul Claudel’s Partage de midi (Dagen vender). From 1978 to 1983 he was the stage manager for The Saint Olav Drama in Stiklestad, and he received the Stiklestad Prize in 1980. In the later years he did guest appearances at the Nordland Theater.
In film, Aas debuted in 1964 in Alle tiders kupp and acted in several Norwegian films through the 1960s and 1970s, including Smuglere (1968), Skulle det dukke opp flere lik er det bare å ringe (1970), and Rallarblod (1979); he also appeared in Olsen Gang films. On TV he acted in Skipper Worse (1968) and appeared often with Rolv Wesenlund in Fleksnes Fataliteter. He is well known for his role as the brother-in-law “Rødhette” in the 1981 Fleksnes episode Rotbløyte and as a hysterical doctor in the 1974 episode Det går alltid et tog. His last TV role was the short film Operasjon Popcorn in 1998.
